The end of Give Me Liberty!

December9

Studying our freedom has come to an end. After winter break we will start studying the amazing human body and how it works.  We will also study different animals by dissecting a sheep’s lung and heart. It will start in January and go through to February. Mrs. McGuckin said it is one of her favorites, and we think it will be one of yours too!

Next week we will do secret santa, the auction, polar express day, then we are free until next year!

Colonial life….. it sucks!

November17

Hey there!! On Friday the wonderful Mrs.Veronica (not Victoria) came to give us a taste of the colonial lifestyle. It was HARD!! You got a bath once a month, shared a toothbrush with everyone in your family, and even had to spin the yarn to make your own clothes. It was fun for an hour, but imagine a week! or even a year!

We will be posting the Star Student Interviews on Google Classroom instead of YouTube because it was very annoying and inconvenient. I will be sending out the link if it works so that you can view the videos, every student also is on Mrs. McGuckin’s Google Classroom page so you can view it from there as well. We do have some new videos up and have more coming. We do need to delete some “mess up” videos though.

Cardboard Carnival

October27

We had a blast at our cardboard carnival! There was a lot of neat and creative games. We had lots of kids come. It was very fun, I would do it again if I could. I look forward to going next year and playing some games.

Our Field Trip to the Art Museum

September21

Hi, it’s Landon and I’m going to tell you about our field trip to the Art Museum. The Art Museum was amazing! The building has so much old and expensive things, they also have the longest table I’ve ever seen. The house even had a elevator, but you could not ride in it. They had the coolest paintings, the frames were also very cool. The people there were very nice to us. We had a lot of fun. They even gave us a free pass so that we could come back with our family. I recommend going there. Sorry that I posted this so late, apparently it never uploaded!

Field Trip to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science

January30

Our field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science was AMAZING!! The students participated in a hands-on Lung Lab and then spent time in their Expedition Health exhibit. We also had a chance to run upstairs and check out the Whales exhibit. It was such a great day with my awesome class. Below, students share their reflections on this incredible day.  Thank you so much to Mrs. Marquez, Mrs. Graf, & Mrs. Iversen for coming with us to help!

-Colton

The field trip was awesome!! My partner was Brandon he got freaked out for half of the time because the lungs looked gross to him. So, I got lots of dissecting time to myself. You could also go search if there was any blood clots and hear them pop when you cut it. So if I rated this field trip 0-10 stars it would be 10!!!! After we did the dissection we got into groups. We followed Mrs. Mcguckin’s group and went to Expedition Health, it was so awesome.

~Britt

Well at first I thought it was going to be disgusting and gross. Honestly, I was looking up pictures of sheep lungs to see what it would look like. But, I made though it (It was pretty cool). My Partners Zack, Nick, and I ripped through it and cut it up. Our lungs where soooo bloody. We found like 5 puddles of blood. Ok, so I did like it. It was super fun! And I would like to thank the parents that came and helped us out with it.

~Abigael

I thought this field trip was going to be cool, but boy was I wrong… IT WAS AWESOME!! My partner was Sophie, and we were both ecstatic about this trip. We dove right in, but we felt bad for Morgan and Cami. We had a healthy pair of lungs. But they had lungs from a sheep that most likely had a heart attack. It was full of blood clots. Sophie and I had a blast, we cut, we played, we examined. This was better than Ameritown in my opinion.

~Alex

I LOVED the whole field trip it was so cool the lung dissection was awesome! The lungs were like honey was spilled all over a bunch of sponges glued together then put in the fridge then drizzled with more honey or in more technical terms it felt like like lungs but either way I liked it a lot! The expedition health was fun too! I liked doing the bikes and the speed runner thing  I  liked the whole entire field trip! I would love to come back again like if they had a planetarium movie about the body that would be awesome!!

Kaleb-

I loved dissecting the lambs lung it was amazing but very disgusting and the rotations learning about the lungs before the dissection even I thought the expedition health exhibit was fun even though I lost my iPod hopefully I get back I still enjoyed the field trip almost as cool or fun as Ameritown the only thing I didn’t like was the drive there was long in the exhibition health some of the stations made me mad but it was still fun!!!!

Sami –

The field trip was so cool! I loved dissecting the sheep lungs though it was kind of gross. It made me gag. I learned that it is better to breath through your nose than your mouth because the mucus and the hairs catch the dirt or smoke in the air so it is clean air that you’re breathing. I think it was so much fun to just go around Expedition Health and do all of the stuff. My favorite was measuring how fast you can run and see how long it would take you to get around a lake. Instead of running, people would cartwheel, skip, dance, and twirl across. I also found out that I can run up to 6.3 mph! I love the Museum of Nature and Science!

Nevaeh-

The field trip was amazing!! I’ve been to the museum before, but not in the expedition health, in the space exhibit. The lung dissection was really gross, but kind of cool. I loved the expedition health, I got to see how tall I am, I found out I’m 5 feet, I feel short. I loved the space exhibit, for our free time we went over to the space exhibit. BEST FIELD TRIP EVER!!!!!!!

Logan-

The field trip was SO COOL!!! We got to dissect lamb lungs. It was kind of gross at first but Aiden and I got used to it. We sow a lot of parts and functions and then we got scissors and first cut through the trachea, then the lungs to see the bronchi. We learned all about the lungs because before we started to dissect, we had a few stations and each one was different. But we learned something different at each station. After the lamb lungs, we went to expedition health, and it was VERY fun. We did all different things and they had a kids lab where there are a few different stations, Zach and I got to see our own cells. There was also another area where strap you put around your head and someone sits in front of you with a table in the middle with a ball. Who ever is more focused and gets the ball on the other player’s side, wins. There was also a thing that measures how tall you are. There were lots of other things also, I loved the nature and science museum!

~Avery

I loved the field trip! I was so excited I couldn’t sleep. I loved the lungs the most, they feel squishy and soft. Rakenna and I were so excited! Rakenna and I liked the bronchi, it was so bumpy and cold and so cool. I liked the museum where you can test your strength.

Nathan-

I loved the museum so much! I liked the time in Expedition Health the most. The dissections weren’t bad, but Nevaeh did most of the cutting because my hands are weak :). It was disgusting because the lungs were all squishy and bloody. There was also a lot of mucus in other partners’ lungs, so I was SO grossed out. They had to scrape it out with scissors. (I’m not feeling very good writing this right now…). Expedition Health was fun because we got to do a virtual bike ride and we got to do a science lab if we wanted to. Colton and I did the science lab and tested sugar ratios between Fruity Pebbles and Cheerios. We got to grind them up, add water, and tested them using science. (Cheerios won, by the way). I will always remember this field trip! 10/10 would go again.

Alayna~

I loved the museum so much! It was so fun dissecting the lamb lungs even if your partner was sometimes a chicken, (Conner). It was so amazing in the expedition because we got to see how our body worked. There was a part in expedition health when the video played and we got to put our finger in a machine that would take our pulse and our body temp. It was so much fun and I hope we get to go again soon!

Rakenna-

The field trip was really cool. I do have a bad cold so the dissecting the Lambs lungs were really amazing at first, but then I felt kinda sick. A couple of minutes before we ended dissecting I had to go to the bathroom so I got to be done early while my partner Avery had to clean up all by herself because I had to go to the bathroom ( sorry Avery) It was fun and my favorite part was doing the Heath Exhibit. Every time I go there with my dad or with my sister.

Luke−

This was one of my favorite field trips I have ever been on. Some of my favorite parts where when we got to cut the trachea open it was like hard soft stuff you could stick your finger down the tube it felt very weird. Also inside the lungs if you found a hole you could take your scissors and cut through it you could see where it leads to.

Brandon- The field trip wasn’t the best but my favorite place was the whale place that was so cool. It was blue and underwater. I learned that whales started as land animals, then they got bigger and grew a tail and fins. I also learned that your lungs are really small but they can take in a lot of air! The right lung is bigger than the left, because it needs room to put the heart, so the left lung is smaller!

Jacob~I loved the field trip. The dissecting was great, but at the end I didn’t feel good. I loved the Expedition Heath. Nick and I both did an experiment, The experiment was to test drugs on a water bug. We tested Alcohol and Nicotine. Nicotine increased the water bug, Alcohol decreased the water bug.

Nicholas~ One of my favorite part was cutting up the sheep lungs and the trachea, and seeing all the holes and how the lungs pump oxygen to the blood cells. My favorite part was the Expedition Health room because Jacob and me did a experiment. The experiment was Drug Testing what it would do to you. 3 of the drugs are called,Alcohol,Nicotine and sleeping pills. Also they had this game with your focus there was a ball in the center and you have to stay focus to get a goal on your appoints goal.

Holly- I had the best time at the Museum of Nature and Science my favorite part was the health expedition! We got to see a heart a real one too. I also loved the the dissecting  mine had a lot of mucus, I got to cut the trachea that was fun and you could hear the pop! We also went to the space and we learned about black holes and how you can not see them!

Tanner-

The field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science was AMAZING. My favorite part was cutting and dissecting the lungs at the end it was smelling pretty bad but it was fun.I really liked learning how the body works and all the different systems worked.

Morgan –  I loved the field trip and the lungs were okay. I lost my appetite, but I was okay. then Sophie & I did a heath reach lab and we got to see cells and it was so cool.

Tristen- I loved the field trip I took pictures of our class doing the dissecting the lungs. The museum was awesome the  Expedition Health exhibit was the best part there were lots of stuff we could do in there. There was this mind game where two players put a brain scanner around your head then someone presses a button then you relax and this ball moves then it beeps and you see who wins.

Conner – I loved the field trip to the museum and we dissected lambs lungs. First, we had to cut down the trachea. 2nd we had to find the bronchitis. Then finally we cut off a  piece of the lung and hear the popping sound of the air sacks. The whole lung dissecting was gross for me. One of my favorite things was the  Expedition Health exhibit we got to watch a video about a young lady who was climbing Mount Everest. We also got to race on these stationary bikes against other people next to you.

Maddie~The field trip was very cool! Expedition Health was really fun, especially when Conner jumped when the thunder made him fall out of his chair, but the best thing was being a scientist. You could look at your own DNA. I’m kind of glad I didn’t dissect the lamb’s lungs but I could have learned a lot.

Caution- the pics below are not for weak stomachs!!!
